The English Major’s Club: A Haven For Literature Lovers

Are you an English major in search of a community of like-minded people? Look no further than the English Majors Club! EMC is currently looking for new members to grow its tight-knit community. To shed some light on the club, English Unbound spoke to the club’s president, Ja’ronn Alex.

When asked to summarize the club’s purposes, Alex said that EMC is a community of English majors and students interested in literature in general. One of Ja’ronn’s main goals as president is to bring in new members. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the club has suffered from a severe decrease in membership, but Alex is determined to restore the club to its previous state.

A graphic explaining why you should join EMC.

Right now, Alex says his favorite thing about the club is “the potential and possibility of what it can become.” By growing the club, Alex thinks he could bring bigger and better opportunities to everyone involved, which is important because he wants to help members with their future careers.

He said, “I was incredibly ambitious this summer and met with the English Department. The plan is to make the club a ramp to help English majors network and to make something of the major itself in addition to it being a community of people. Right now, though, I have to focus on building that community first.”

When asked what he would like to say to people thinking about joining, Alex said, “I can’t wait to meet you.”

The English Majors Club is a fun community with many things planned for the Fall semester, including Hallo-read, their spooky read-aloud event. If you are interested in joining, the club meets every Wednesday from 6 – 7 p.m. You can contact Alex with any questions at his email, jaronna@g.clemson.edu, and you can follow the EMC Instagram account at @clemson_emc
